- Sea Trials Complete -

The team have finished their sea trials now, and the boat has been carefully modified to be able to maintain speed and stability in the conditions expected. This included fitting a 1000 ltr fuel bladder in the foredeck and altering trim-tabs and changing the impeller slightly. Amongst much other work the boat is feeling 'right' now, and the crew have grown in confidence in her ability to cope with big seas and tough environments.

The other factor of course is the human factor. And the crew have learnt
pretty fast what works and what doesn't! How to try and make yourself
comfortable-ish(!), and the best way to protect themselves and their
equipment from the spray and wind and waves. They have been sick many times and learnt what foods encourage and discourage this! They have bonded as a team, depended on each other, shared those moments together and got to feel the boat is part of them out there and is on their side. This means alot when heading off to big seas and despite a sense that they leave so soon now, and the nerves that come with that, they also feel a real sense of purpose- they have trained hard and want actually now to just begin the attempt. We are all praying for good sea and ice conditions.
The boat leaves for Nova Scotia, packed aboard the Wallaneus container ship, on 2nd July from Southampton. The team then follow her out, leaving the UK on 28th July and plan to start the first leg on 31st July.
Keep track of their real time progress once the expedition begins, through their marinetrack system that will allow you to see their progress every 1/2 an hour, with lat/longs and speed being sent back onto the map page below.
