-- Boat Launches in Portsmouth --
All systems are go as the boat gets launched in style!
At 12 noon on 29th april 2003 the team proudly christened the arnold & son explorer at Gunwharf quays, portsmouth. Infront of a great throng of press, sponsors and well wishers, Capt William Pennefather (RN) and Bear Grylls addressed the crowd and cracked a magnum bottle of Mumm champagne over her foredeck. TV crews and journalists were given a quick spin in the boat, sponsor photos were taken and everyone enjoyed the expedition cocktails on the quayside.
Celebrations at the launch
A busy launch party
It was a hugely memorable day and signifies the start of the real work ahead- the team have already begun the sea-trials off the Devon coast with successful night passages where they encountered some pretty turbulant waters! The boat survived and the crew are beginning to learn how to survive on board and make the basic boat as comfortable as is possible!
