| Boat
and Expedition Schedule |
| The
boat has now been commissioned by Ocean Dynamics, based in Pembroke
Docks, West Wales. They have been instrumental in putting the correct
boat and specifications together. This will be one of the toughest
and most advanced RIBs ever built. Constructed with an aluminium
hull capable of enduring the harsh realities of floating ice and
'growlers' the boat will be completely open to the elements and
frozen spray. |
| |
| It
will be powered by a caterpillar 450hp in board diesel engine coupled
to a twin discs jet. This jet drive, instead of using an outdrive
'leg', will minimise the possibilities of damage, if the boat runs
into heavy ice. Navigation and all communication equipment will
be provided by Simrad, who are one of the world's leading company's
at the forefront of maritime electronics. |
| |
| Carefully
configured to carry the vast amount of fuel needed for such an endeavour,
the exact figures and weight/power ratios will become apparent during
the extensive sea-trialling that will need to be conducted after
delivery of the boat. |
| |
| The
boat will then be based from the Royal Naval base in Portsmouth,
(thanks to the Royal Naval Sailing School, Whale Island) from where
the sea-trials will be conducted. During these months there will
also be an opportunity for journalistsand sponsors to experience
the performance of this craft first hand. |
| |
| From
Portsmouth, the boat will then be shipped by container ship to Halifax,
Nova Scotia, in June 2003. The team will meet the boat out there
in mid-July and plan to set off late july 2003. The Return party
on the Thames at St. Katherine's Dock is scheduled for late september.
God willing! |
| |
| A
final evening event will be held in December 2003 at the Royal Geographic
Society, London, where the team will be giving a lecture on the
adventure! |
