Mellowing Seas

Report:

We have now had the all clear from the Naval fleet forecasters for a weather window, to begin heading off for the Faroe Islands, our penultimate stop. We have learnt from bitter experience that forecasts can only be trusted for a 24 hour period and therefore when we reach the Westmann Islands we will make a decision there whether to hold off or head straight on with a refuel for the Faroe's.

Today with the Icelandic weather forecasters, it was pretty poignant looking at some of the historical data for the weather we were in 400 miles from Iceland before and to see what should have been force 4 actually touching gale force 8 during that night, hence the challenges we faced. Now we are in more chartered waters and the fact the boat is all repaired and ready to go, we are hoping that this next leg should give us some following seas. All the team now know we are homeward bound.

Finally, thankyou to so many Icelanders who have gone to so much trouble to help us and make us feel so welcome. A final farewell to Haraldur Olafsson, the famous Icelandic Everest climber, with real encouragement as we all set out.
We leave at 8am (GMT) on Tuesday 12th August.
